Cobra 427

Just finished this a few days ago for work, it's still in the review process and needs a few tiny changes that I know of already, but nothing really notable, so I'ma be a rebel and post it anyways.

UV/texturing is being handled by other members of the team, along with the actual import process, so I'll hopefully remember to post again once that happens ;D

    Poly limits were:
60kish max for exterior/low poly interior
30k max for high poly interior
200-250k for HD version

And of course, I had to render the high poly version, for personal pleasure ;D

Been A While

Considering it's been almost 6 months since I've posted anything on here, I suppose it's time I do just that.

Since my last post there have been a million projects come and go. Only two or three of these have actually mattered though, so I think I'll just show those for now, along with a small update about real life, and then in the near future possibly share some more detailed posts about each of those subjects.

Recently most of my time in Maya has been spent modeling a low poly Audi R8. I'm mainly doing this as practice, as my current career path is entirely low poly cars. I've been working on this on and off for about 2 months now, in total I've spent approximately 20 hours on it. For the amount of progress I've made, and how inexperienced I am in low poly modeling, I think I've done pretty well

Another project I've been working on recently is an F-22 Raptor. This one is being done for a competition over at SimplyMaya.com. The challenge is to make any sort of flying thing, be it a bird, a plane, a rocket, anything. One member is even doing a flying pig, while another is doing Superman. I doubt I'll be able to finish this to any reasonable level by the time the deadline hits, but I've never really modeled anything other than a car before, and I've always wanted to model a plane. This is being done in low poly form aswell, as the more low poly modeling I can do, the more opportunities I have with my career path.

Now for the life update. The reason this page has been neglected for so long now, is that on January 6th, at 12:52 AM, my girlfriend gave birth to our first son. All the months of neglect leading up to that date, and since, have been spent preparing for that moment, and helping him grow and learn. And god damn he's grown and learned. As of yesterday he's two months old, and makes more understandable faces than any adult does when he wants something. If he wants to eat, he puts his hand in front of his mouth and makes a sucky face. If he needs to be changed, he grimaces like a pro. And if he wants to be held, he makes the most adorable little sad face ever. The same face that will be the cause for him having stacks of go-karts and girlie posters in his room when he's older. Just can't say no to it.

In closing; I'll try not to neglect this page too much now, but as you can see by that face above, I do have other things going on in my life, just hopefully not enough that I stop posting for 6 months again.

Finished Skyline Toy Renders & An Old Hippie Gets A Last Stand

Ended up redoing that horrid box for the Skyline. Could still use a few tweaks, but I have more important matters to attend to at the moment, so I'll come back to it later. Until further notice though, I'll be referring to it as done.

Another thing I've done recently was revive an old project of a member at SimplyMaya. His username was OldHippieTom, we only chatted a small bit, but he was a great guy, all around. He passed away some time this March (2011). When I saw this in the resources area, I couldn't help but give it a bit of a last stand. They aren't great, as there were some problems between the model and the rendering program that I don't really have the knowledge to overcome, but I'm sure he would've liked the gesture.

Here are some links some of his work aswell, he was a pretty damn good modeler/renderer/texturer.

An update to the Skyline project.

The whole idea for the Skyline was never for it to be a full sized car, it was intended to be a die cast model. Didn't go too well though when I set up the renders and that. But now I've gone back to the toy idea and decided to make it into a remote controlled car.

I'm going to make a full scene for it, on a table and all, but for now, I have made a quick mock-up of a box for it, along with the Styrofoam packaging it would come with.

A New, More Obscene, Grenade Cologne.

I wasn't happy at all with the other texture, so I had another crack at it. So, I'm totally happy with it, and it's obscenities now.

Realtime render is running for the final shots, will give each one 30 minutes or so, don't want to leave it too long this time. But here's a preview.

EDIT: Got the final images now.

Grenade Cologne.

Make 'em wet, then make 'em dead. A SimplyMaya member suggested that I do this, so I gave it a shot. I'm pretty bad at texturing, and not too creative, so it didn't come out too great. Also didn't get the colours I wanted, but oh well.

I've created a Facebook Page. And made a better beer grenade.

I've created a Facebook page in an attempt to get the attention I crave. You can see it in the link below.

I've also spent a few minutes revising the beer grenade. Gave it a proper inside layer of beer and outside of glass.
